Chris joined Trollope Mining Services in May 2011, after qualifying as a mine surveyor through an Xstrata Coal internship. During the first year at Trollope Chris held the position of Site Surveyor for all the operations. In his second year he was promoted to our Head Office where he managed all the site surveyors. Chris is also in charge of all the Site Mapping and Planning. During his career, Chris has built up extensive experience in the Mining Industry which include Coal, Gold, Diamond, Andalusite and Phosphate sectors.





Colleen matriculated from Pretoria High School for Girls in 1981 following which she served her five years of articles at a firm of Chartered Accountants in Pretoria. 

She completed her BCompt Accounting degree and Honours degree studying part time through Unisa and passed her Chartered Accountant SA exams in 1991.

Colleen worked for KPMG for 17 years as an Auditor and gained valuable experience of all types of businesses and systems. Before joining Trollope Mining Services in April 2007, she worked as the CFO for the City of Joburg’s Revenue Department.




Francois has completed a diploma in Mechanical Engineering as well as a course on Business Management at the Tukkies post graduate faculty. He joined Trollope Mining Services in February 1999 as an apprentice and mechanic and worked as such until 2003 when he was transferred to Tselentis as workshop manager.

In 2007 he was made responsible for plant and equipment in the Mpumalanga area until 2009 when he was transferred to Head Office and promoted to Plant Manager.

Francois is currently in charge of all plant and equipment owned and operated by Trollope Mining Services.




Geoff was born in the UK in 1957. He completed a BSc degree in Civils and Structural Engineering at the University of Manchester.

Geoff arrived in South Africa in 1980 and spent his first years in the country working for a Civil Engineering Consulting Company. Following this he joined Frigate Mining for a period of time and then spent five years working for Concor Mining where he was involved with road and civil construction and also ran their drilling & blasting division.

In 1996 he moved to Diesel Power Opencast Mining, one of the largest opencast mining contractors in the country at the time. In search of a new challenge, Geoff joined Trollope Mining Services in 2010 as Commercial Manager.




Guy matriculated from Grey High School in 1996, after which he completed a National Diploma in Civil Engineering at the Port Elizabeth Technikon. 

During his career, Guy has accumulated 20 years of experience within the Opencast Mining and Civil Engineering industries, including road-building, bulk earthworks, civils,  water treatment, construction and ore beneficiation.

He has managed various mining contracts and greenfield projects in South Africa, Mali, Guinea, Zambia and the DRC.

Guy is a registered Project Management Professional and completed the Senior Leaders Development Program at Wits Business School. Guy started at Trollope Mining Services in 2017, and manages a number of the companies open pit mining operations.




Jessica attended St Mary’s DSG in Pretoria following which she studied a BAccHons at the University of Stellenbosch. Jessica completed her Charted Accountancy Articles at Investec South Africa (Johannesburg) which included a rotation to the Investec London office. After the completion of her articles, Jessica joined the family business in 2009. As an area accountant, she was responsible for the cost accounting and management reporting for a selection of the company’s mining operations.

She was furthermore involved in a selection of commercial matters including the compilation of tender documents. In 2014 Jessica became the financial manager of Trollope Mining Services, overseeing all financial aspects of the business.





After matriculating in 1988, Johan started work in the personnel division of the South African Air force. During his career here he enrolled with Unisa to study a Human Resources Management degree.

In May 1998 Johan joined Witkop Fluorspar Mine (Pty) Ltd (Based in Zeerust) as Payroll and Human Resources Officer where he was soon promoted to Human Resources Manager.

In November 2005 he moved to Basil Read (Pty) Ltd Construction in Johannesburg as Human Resources Manager assisting with the start-up process for mining contracts in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. Responsibilities included that of chief negotiator between the company and unions from Botswana and Namibia.

During 2008 he was headhunted to join Group 5 Construction in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) in Dubai, as Industrial Relations Manager, responsible for all HR matters between the company and employees from various countries including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Johan returned to South Africa and joined Trollope Mining Services in April 2009 as Human Resources Manager where he is responsible for the full Human Resources function including the verification process carried out to ensure that the company is BEE compliant and ISO certified.



John Tlou 2JOHN TLOU

John grew up in Cullinan and after completing schooling at Mamelodi High School in 1979 he joined Ovcon Construction in 1980 as an Administrator and in 1983 appointed as a Personnel Officer.

During his working tenure he studied part time and completed two Diplomas in Human Resources Management. He then continued and also completed PMD with GIBS (University of Pretoria)

In 1989 he joined Basil Read Construction as Senior HR Officer and in 1994 was head hunted by Group Five and appointed as HR Manager and later promoted to HR Director. In 2011 he left Group Five a started an HR consulting business where he was again head hunted by the Kusile Civils Joint Venture (KCW JV) at the Kusile Power Station and took up a position as HR Manager for the JV. In January 2017 he joined Trollope Mining Services as the Senior HR Manager.

John is a registered Human Resources Professional as a Generalist with the South African Board of Personnel Practices (SABPP) and an Affiliate Member of the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM)



Mark attended St Albans College following which he completed a Beng Civil Engineering at Stellenbosch University. Mark joined Trollope Mining Services in May 2011 where he held numerous positions including that of a Site Engineer and Site Manager. During his career, Mark has built up extensive experience in the Mining Industry which include the management of operations in the Chrome, Coal, Gold, Diamond, Copper, Andalusite, Phosphate and PGM sectors. Mark is currently an Area Manager for the company overseeing the operations of several projects throughout Africa.








Shaun has completed a selection of courses related to first aid, blasting and health & safety. He joined Trollope Mining Services in 2000 as a Forman at the Springs operation and slowly learnt the ’mining ropes’. In January 2001 he was put in charge of a site in Nigel where the Company mined gold for two years.

On the completion of this project he was moved to the Kalahari, where Trollope Mining Services carried out the open cast mining of platinum, and then to the coal fields in the Witbank and Middelburg area. In September 2011 Shaun was promoted to Group Safety Manager in charge of all SHEQ requirements.
